The study will not let me because it is empty. Ridiculous, I know. Is there a trick I can do to have the printer into thinking so that you can scan or fax ink fool?

Unfortunately not.
The ink acts as on / off switch for the printer all, if one is empty, which is off the printer. The disadvantage is, however, obliged to buy more ink, unnecessarily.
Brother will not go unpunished, because all companies in the printer, and I mean not all exactly the same.
